Monica Liddi Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at St. Mary's College of Maryland

2012 Apr 9

Monica Liddi, a resident of Silver Spring, MD, was inducted into the Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at St. Mary's College of Maryland for academic achievement in the liberal arts and sciences, good character, and breadth of intellectual interests. Founded at the College of William and Mary on December 5, 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's first – and most prestigious – academic honor society.

On April 3, 2012, the Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at St. Mary's College of Maryland inducted 23 students to its ranks. Benjamin Toll '07, formerly of St. Mary's College Admissions Office and now senior assistant director of admissions at George Washington University, gave the induction address.

St. Mary's was approved for a chapter in 1997, after a rigorous review process that took more than three years to complete. There are 280 Phi Beta Kappa chapters across the United States today, with a membership exceeding 500,000.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
