Maria Duke of Gaithersburg to Participate in Service Trip to Nicaragua

Maria Duke of Gaithersburg, Md. and graduate of Richard Montgomery High School will participate in a service trip on May 18-31, 2014. Duke, who is a sophomore at St. Mary's College of Maryland, will travel to the community of Limon 2 in Nicaragua to tutor children in reading with a focus on environmental stewardship. This trip is sponsored by the Raices Hispanas Club, of which Duke is a member, at St. Mary's College of Maryland. At St. Mary's College, Duke is double majoring in sociology and film. St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 1,800 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
